Responsible Play
Last updated:
Magpie Raffle operates skill-based prize competitions, not gambling. Even so, we know that any activity involving money and prizes can become a problem if it stops being fun. This page exists because we care more about you sticking around for the right reasons than about a few extra tickets sold.
Set yourself limits before you start
- Decide how much you're willing to spend in a month and stick to it.
- Treat ticket spend like entertainment money — not as an investment, and never as a route to fix money problems.
- Don't enter competitions to chase a previous loss or near-miss. The next draw is independent of the last one.
Signs to watch for
If any of the following sound familiar, take a step back:
- Spending more than you planned, or more than you can comfortably afford.
- Hiding the amount you're spending from people close to you.
- Feeling restless or irritable when you can't enter.
- Borrowing money to buy more tickets.
- Feeling that you must win “next time” to put things right.
Support resources
If you're worried about your play — or someone else's — these UK organisations can help:
- GamCare — free, confidential support and a national helpline: 0808 8020 133 (24/7). Web: gamcare.org.uk.
- BeGambleAware— information, self-assessment tools, and treatment referral: begambleaware.org.
- Gamblers Anonymous — peer support meetings across the UK: gamblersanonymous.org.uk.
Self-exclusion
If you want to take a break or stop playing entirely, email [support@magpieraffle.co.uk]and ask to be self-excluded. We will close your account and prevent any new entries from your email address for the period you ask for — minimum 6 months, with longer options available. You don't have to explain. We will not invite you back at the end of the exclusion period; you will need to contact us to reopen the account.
Our commitments
- We do not target marketing at people we believe may be vulnerable.
- We do not use loss-chasing prompts (no “you nearly won, try again” messages).
- We display ticket prices and odds in plain English on every competition.
- We do not use fake scarcity tactics. Where we show “X tickets left”, it is the real count.
- We will not sell or share your data to gambling-adjacent advertisers, ever.
Spotted a problem?
If you think we're falling short of these commitments — in our copy, our product, or how we treat you — please tell us at [support@magpieraffle.co.uk]. We'd rather hear it from you than not at all.
