Competition Rules
Last updated:
These rules apply to all prize competitions operated by Magpie Raffle Ltd. They sit alongside the general site Terms and any specific terms shown on the individual competition page at the time of entry.
1. The competition model
Magpie Raffle operates skill-based prize competitions. Entry requires you to correctly answer a non-trivial skill question. Wrong answers do not enter the draw. Our competitions are not lotteries; they fall within the skill exemption to the Gambling Act 2005.
2. How to enter
There are two routes into every competition, with equal odds:
- Paid entry. Buy one or more tickets through the Site. Each ticket is one entry in the draw, provided you answer the skill question correctly.
- Free entry. Submit a free entry via the form on the competition page (or by post where indicated). Free entries go into the same draw with the same weight as a single paid ticket. No purchase is necessary to enter or win.
Each entrant is limited to one free entry per email address per competition. Multiple free entries from the same person, household, or IP address may be voided.
3. Eligibility
- Open to UK residents aged 18 or over only.
- Employees of Magpie Raffle Ltd, their immediate families, and anyone professionally connected with the running of the competition are excluded.
- You may enter as many times as the per-competition cap allows, subject to the one-free-entry rule above.
4. Closing date and the draw
Each competition has a fixed closing date and time, shown on the competition page. We do not extend closing dates except in cases of force majeure or where required to comply with the law, and any extension will be disclosed prominently on the Site.
After the closing date, we run a provably-fair draw. Before the competition opens, we commit publicly to a future random source — for example, the hash of a specific future Bitcoin block, or a NIST Randomness Beacon timestamp. After the closing date, we use that source as the seed for the draw and publish the calculation so any entrant can verify the result.
Paid and free entries are pooled together before the draw. The route of entry has no bearing on the chance of winning.
5. Winner notification
We will contact the winner by email within 7 days of the draw. The winner has 28 days from first notification to claim the prize. If we cannot reach the winner or the prize is not claimed within that period, we may select an alternative winner using the same provably-fair method.
6. The prize
- The prize is as described on the competition page. We reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the original becomes unavailable.
- Unless stated otherwise, prizes are non-transferable and there is no cash alternative.
- Delivery is to a UK address provided by the winner. Where collection is required, we will arrange this at our cost.
- Any taxes, duties, or insurance costs arising from receipt of the prize are the winner's responsibility.
7. Fraud, multiple entries, and voiding
We may void entries, refuse to pay a prize, or close an account where we reasonably believe an entrant has:
- Used multiple accounts, false identities, or automated tools to enter;
- Provided false eligibility information (including age);
- Attempted to interfere with the integrity of the competition or draw;
- Acted in any way that breaches the law or these rules.
Where lawful, we will refund the value of voided paid entries. Voided entries are excluded from the draw.
8. Void competitions
We may declare a competition void if a defect (technical, legal, or otherwise) means it cannot run fairly. In that case, all paid entries will be refunded in full and free entries will be acknowledged. Where possible we will relaunch the competition with the same prize and closing date.
9. Publicity
Winners may be asked to participate in reasonable post-win publicity (a first name and a photograph, with consent). If you would prefer your win to remain anonymous, let us know and we will respect that. We will not publish full names, addresses, or other identifying details without express consent.
10. Complaints
If you have a complaint about a competition, please email [support@magpieraffle.co.uk] within 14 days of the closing date. We will respond within 14 days of receipt. Unresolved complaints can be escalated to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) where the complaint concerns marketing.
11. Code compliance
Our promotions are designed to comply with the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (the CAP Code), in particular the section on prize promotions. Significant terms are disclosed on each competition page; the full rules are these and the Site Terms.
12. Promoter
Promoter: Magpie Raffle Ltd, [Registered office TBC], company registration [TBC].
